The Washington Capitals Inline Hockey platform is an initiative aiming to provide access to hockey and offer additional opportunities for kids to participate in the sport.
The Inline Hockey platform will offer three main opportunities for involvement:
- Learn to Skate clinics
- Learn to Play Inline Hockey classes
- Capitals Inline Hockey League (CIHL)
LEARN TO SKATE
The Learn to Skate program offers free inline skating clinics to kids ages 5-17. This program is designed for first-time skaters. Participants will receive age-appropriate introductory instruction on the fundamentals of hockey skating and power-skating in order to be more proficient and agile on the rink. The focus is on developing proper techniques with all instruction being conducted without a puck. Fundamentals that will be taught include basic hockey stance, stride, knee bend, control on edges, and other necessary elements needed to be a successful skater. Participants will borrow all necessary protective equipment (helmet, elbow pads, gloves, knee pads, and skates) for the clinic. All equipment will be returned to the Capitals after each clinic.
Clinics are held at various Washington Capitals outdoor ball/inline hockey rinks in D.C., Maryland, and Virginia. This program is designed to be an introduction to skating for the participants and an opportunity to reach the families in our community who are looking for more affordable options for activities.
LEARN TO PLAY INLINE HOCKEY
The Learn to Play Inline program is an opportunity for youth ages 5-10 to try something new and learn inline hockey. Participants will receive everything they need to start their inline hockey journey including six (6) classes of age-appropriate instruction, coaching from Caps Youth Hockey staff and current inline hockey coaches, and a FREE set of protective gear (helmet, elbow pads, gloves, shin pads). Participants will borrow a pair of inline skates to use during their classes and have the option to return them after the session or purchase for a discounted price.
Hosted in collaboration with inline clubs who are members of the Capitals Inline Hockey League, you'll have a guaranteed next step opportunity to play!
