If you’ve ever wanted to feel the thrill of hockey without having to learn how to skate, the Capitals Street Hockey League, presented by GEICO, is your perfect playground. Grab a stick, lace up your sneakers, and get ready for fast-paced games, awesome teammates, and a whole lot of outdoor fun. It’s hockey made simple, made accessible, and most importantly — made to be a blast for kids of all skill levels. The Washington Capitals are dedicated to providing the community with legitimate avenues to playing all forms of hockey. Let's play!

league overview

The co-ed league is open to the public and allows kids ages 5-12 the chance to put their skills to the test in a fun, low-stress environment. No prior hockey experience or gear is required to participate.

Season: 8 weeks

Divisions: 8U (5-8 year-olds), 12U (9-12 year-olds)

Games: 8 weekends, 2 games per team per weekend, 16 total games per team per season

  • Games are cross rink with mini-nets and no goalies

Practices: Each division will have a one-hour group practice each week

SPECIFIC PRACTICE/GAMES DATES AND TIMES ARE LISTED AT REGISTRATION

Rink Locations:

  • Francis C. Hammond Middle School Rink (Alexandria, VA)
  • Watkins Elementary School "Rush Rink" (Washington, D.C.)

Gear:

  • Purchase a stick at registration or bring your own!
  • No other equipment required (shin guards, gloves, elbow pads, mouthguard all recommended but not required)
  • Helmets are prohibited

registration process & eligibility

Registration:

  • All interested kids ages 5-12 (no prior hockey experience required!)
  • If registering multiple children, complete individual registrations for each
  • Prices vary based on location
    • Alexandria - $149
    • D.C. - $129

Team Selections:

  • Player evaluations will be held for each age division at each location
  • All registered players must attend their specific evaluation
  • Players will be ranked based on skill level and placed to ensure fair, balanced teams
