The Fredericksburg Phantoms are the travel hockey arm of Fredericksburg Youth Roller Hockey League (FYRHL). FYRHL was founded in 2015 by Brandon McVade and other dedicated FYRHL board members. The Fredericksburg Phantoms have been around since 2017 when the Regional Select League (RSL) was launched to bring together roller hockey clubs from around the greater Northern Virginia area to participate in jamboree style tournaments. Most recently, the Phantoms elementary team finished in 1st place in their division for the 2022 season. With the tireless work of the FYRHL board as well as the assistance of the Washington Capitals, the roller rink opened in the Fredericksburg area in 2019. Since that time, youth roller hockey has exploded in the Fredericksburg area resulting in the house league expanding to 4 divisions (8U, 10U, 13U, 18U). Additionally, the rink hosts robust “learn to skate” and “learn to play hockey” programs available to all getting started in the sport. The Phantoms are excited to transition from the RSL to participate in the Capitals Inline Hockey League (CIHL) and continue to foster growth of youth roller hockey in the area. Through the Phantoms program, the kids will continue to expand their hockey skills, while learning and executing more complex hockey systems. Additionally, it exposes the athletes to a higher level of competition requiring a greater reliance on teamwork and opportunities to refine leadership skills and demonstrate good sportsmanship.
