Team Makeup:

Each team will consist of a minimum of five (5) and a maximum of seven (7) players. This is a co-ed tournament. Teams that consist of a minimum of one (1) player with A or B-level experience will qualify for the A/B-level tournament and be considered an A/B-level team. The Washington Capitals reserve the right to deny the use of offensive, vulgar, and inappropriate team names. 

Players:

Each player must be 21 years of age (as of 04/01/2023) or older. Any player under the age of 21 will not be eligible to participate. If the Capitals become aware that a registered player is under the age of 21, that team will forfeit it's spot in the tournament. All players will be required to show their Photo ID at check-in on the day of the tournament. Players must register individually for your team upon your captain's completion of the team registration. An email will be sent separately for players to register. 

QUALIFICATIONS FOR SKILL LEVEL

A & B-Level

  • Previously played or currently play in a DC Division 1 or 2 adult ball hockey league
  • Previously played or currently play in a D1/D2/D3 ACHA or NCAA hockey program
  • Previously played for a Tier 1 or junior hockey team

C-Level & Below

  • Previously played for a club/travel or high school hockey team
  • Previously played for a rec/house or middle school hockey team
  • Have an interest in playing recreational street/ball hockey
  • Current P.E. teacher 

Game-play:

Games will be played cross-rink and will consist of two 8-minute halves (16-minute games) with a one-minute halftime. Teams will be given the opportunity to warm-up for 60 seconds prior to the start of each game. This tournament is a 4v4 "pond-hockey style" format utilizing ADM mini-nets (36"x24"). Games will be played using a street hockey ball. 

Round-Robin:

The Saturday schedule will consist of each team playing three (3) games during the round robin to determine seeding. 

The Sunday schedule will consist of each team playing four (4) games during the round robin to determine seeding.

Playoffs:

Teams will be seeded based on win percentage. Tie-breakers will be determined based on goal differential. 

Saturday (A/B Level): The top 6 teams will be placed in the A bracket, while the bottom 6 teams will play in the B bracket. The top two seeds will get a first-round bye.

Sunday (C & Below): All teams will play in one division determined by seeding (subject to change based on number of teams). The top two seeds will get a first-round bye.

In case of inclement weather and the event needs to be postponed, all registered teams will be notified by the Capitals prior to the event.
